401 bridge

A look at the 401 bridge from the Don Valley golf course. This is where I played the final round of my golf league. It's pretty funny to play golf right in the middle of the city.  You really feel like you're out in nature! For more bridges, visit Sunday Bridges.

Over the tracks

This brightly colored pedestrian bridge will take you over the tracks in the western part of the city. Lots of new condos and residential units have recently gone up in this area of town. So new paths and walkways had to be built to accommodate them. I rather like this one!

Lifty bridge

As promised, here's a look at the famed Welland canal bridge. Unfortunately, it wasn't up when I stopped for this photo, but it's still quite interesting to see up close and personal.

On the horizon

I thought it was time to start the voyage into the summer, but we've got snow in the forecast for today! What's happening Canada? Please someone, send some warm weather our way!

Tranquility

A serene scene from the golf course. This photo was taken on October 21st and sadly, I think it was my last round of golf (in Canada anyway) for the season. Guess I'll have to spend some time swinging in one of those golf bubbles this winter.

Blue Waters Bridge

I spent an unexpected weekend in Sarnia, Ontario a few weeks back. My husband and I had planned to cross this bridge to pass the weekend in Detroit, but car troubles kept us on the Canadian side. It was fun exploring the city on foot. And you can certainly see why this border crossing is called the Blue Waters Bride - a more apt name couldn't be found! Golf course causeway

I like the idea of having a causeway over the fescue at a golf course! I found this example at the Grey Silo course in Waterloo, ON. I was actually there for an LPGA tournament earlier this summer. I even got to meet and greet with the German golfer, Sandy Gal. I try to root for her when I watch the women's events. If you'd like to see more bridges, visit Sunday Bridges.

Island footbridge

Sorry for the unannounced absence, but I was called away to Chicago for a wedding this weekend. I thought I had set up some posts for while I was gone, but it seems they didn't work. I hope you'll enjoy this charming footbridge from the Toronto Islands. It's just a short ferry ride to the islands, but when you're there you feel like you're worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city! It's a nice place to beat the heat as well.

Bridge in the background

A railway bridge runs behind one of the golf courses I like to play. Luckily, the trains don't run too often on the weekends! The scene looked beautiful a few weeks ago when all the fescue was in bloom. I am having a great, although golf-free weekend and I hope you are too!

Open sesame

I was recently invited to the Royal Yacht Club of Toronto. To get there, you have to take a ferry boat out to the little island the club occupies. On our way there, we passed this drawbridge. It looks pretty neat, but I doubt many tall ships pass through here. But if they do, the bridge can adapt!

Memorial bridge

This is a look at the fountain that you would see from the bench on my post from Friday. It's part of the Memorial Garden at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Many people are remembered on the plaques you see and on stones, rocks and benches. I think it's a great idea to remember people this way. The garden is a lovely place to relax and reflect.

Golf bridge

It's that time of year again - GOLF SEASON! You'll probably be seeing more course shots over the summer. This bridge was found at Flemingdon Park golf course where I have been playing with a ladies group on Thursdays. Although the trees still haven't leafed out, things are getting green here in Toronto and I'm ready for it!

Stone bridge

A stone bridge that takes you over this little piece of the Don River just behind the Riverdale Farm. It's a very pretty area to walk around, no matter what the season.

Old and new

It was a bit strange at the old Fort York. It's really right in the middle of downtown and you definitely feel the juxtaposition of old and new when you take a look around. That bridge you see is the Gardiner Expressway, one of the busier roads that take commuters into town. I wonder what old Simcoe would think about his fort now?

Lift lock

We did take the boat tour in Peterborough. It took us through two locks which are part of the Trent Severn Waterway that links Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay. The first lock was your typical kind where the boats come in and they fill the basin with water. The second was the lift lock. I'll show you more of it tomorrow, it's quite something!
