Allegro

I found this mural on the side of the building housing the Allegro Italian restaurant in Caledon, Ontario. I didn't go inside, but I would suspect the interior must be nice as well. Hope your Monday is off to a good start. I ended up first in my flight in the golf tournament this weekend. A happy surprise! For more murals, visit Monday Mural.

Gallery Grill

The Gallery Grill was one of my favorite spaces inside Hart House. This resto is noted for its delicious lunch and brunch menus and is open to the public. Sadly, it is closed for the summer right now, but I'd love to get back and sample some of the items on the menu. The atmosphere in the dining area is pretty special too. If you're seated to the left, you have a wonderful view out to the courtyard. And to the right you overlook the main dining hall. I'll show you a special detail from the hall tomorrow.

Bright benches

Sorry I've been a bit out of commission lately, but the (fairly) new job is still keeping me quite busy. Since I haven't had much time to shoot anything new, here's a look at some benches outside a fast food joint in Niagara Falls. I love the bright red of those benches. But the best part of this photo is the fake owl on the upper left corner to keep the pigeons at bay. For more red, visit Ruby Tuesday.

Sumo mural

You'll find this mural at one of my regular hangouts on Yonge Street - Ajisen Ramen. The worn-out pink seating might turn some people off, but I find it kitschy cute. I actually discovered this place a few months back when I saw a picture of ramen soup on someone else's blog. I started to get a craving, so I googled "best ramen in Toronto" and Ajisen came up. I've been going there ever since!

This is the first soup I sampled, vegetarian with a miso-based broth with two squares of fried tofu on top. Now I usually get number 25 which is veggies in a curry broth. Whatever you choose, it's bound to be delicious, I don't think there's anything "bad" on their menu. For more murals, take a look at Mural Monday.

Only in Pisa...

I was driving around the other day and found this wonderfully kitschy Italian restaurant and I just had to stop to get a shot. I'm dedicating this post to VP at Livorno Daily Photo as I think he would agree, only a Pisan would like to eat here! It's an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet and from the looks of the place, it doesn't seem to be very refined.

May theme day: Bakeries

May is here! What a better way to celebrate than with some fresh-baked bread? I have shown you outside Dimpflmeier's before, but I thought another view was worth showing since it is hands-down the best bakery in town! 

Although this bakery is specialized in German-style breads, they also have a nice pastry counter. Photos are not really allowed inside, but I managed to surreptitiously get this one with my iPhone, I only wish this photo made everything look as delicious as it really is!

Yumm!

This post is for Leia. A look at the delicious sushi dinner I had at the restaurant in the Bloor Street West restaurant. It tasted as good as it looks!

Glow!

Glow is a newly popular restaurant in Toronto, it has been featured on several food programs and talk shows. The philosophy behind the business is to offer healthy eating options in a relaxed atmosphere. I ate here a few weeks ago and I have to say they have succeeded in their mission. The food was delicious and I especially loved their mini desserts which had no more than 250 calories each. All the taste and none of the guilt!

Delicious!

Sometimes I just get a craving for sushi. When I do, there's a little place that I like to go to that has a great chirashi plate. It's nothing fancy, but the fish is always fresh and beautifully presented. In fact, I'm thinking my husband and I need to make a stop here when we get back to T-town.

Belly up

The new Loblaws downtown has so many cool features, including a full-service sushi bar. The chefs prepare the seafood delights right in front of your eyes (and perhaps a couple of others watching through the window). You can either eat your delicacies here at the bar or take them with you to enjoy later. I may have to come back and give this place a taste test.

Star style treats

I had some gelato in Hollywood recently. Not Hollywood, California, but the place did have a certain style. And the creamy treats were delicious!

Dreamy place

I found this cute cafe in Port Hope. I love the way it looks with those lovely tables and flowers. I also think the name is perfect! Unfortunately, I didn't see the lady inside giving me the evil eye until later. I guess she didn't like being part of my photo...

Floral facade

Another one of the beautiful flower-covered restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Every building you see seems to be prettier than the others, but I really think this was the piece de resistance. Fall has definitely descended on Toronto, so it's nice to take a look back to this summer.

A Rickard's Red is good any time of the day (well, after noon at least), but it's especially refreshing on a warm Indian summer day. Reminds me, the weekend is coming!

Thirsty?

 

The Town Crier is a popular meeting spot for the German community in Toronto. They have a wide selection of German beers and even some typical German food. My husband and I have attended a couple of German meet-up events here. It's a good way to make sure our German isn't getting too rusty and it's fun to meet new people too!

Fancy sign

Barrels

In the US, we get crackers from barrels. In Canada, it's pickles. I must admit, I've never eaten at either restaurant. Perhaps I need to change that.

Have another one

Second Cup is like the Canadian equivalent of Starbucks (although we have that too). There are outlets all over town, but this one happens to be in the food court of a shopping center not far from where I live. Some afternoons I stop by for a nice cappuccino and some people watching.

Frog and firkin

This place has become our neighborhood pub for now. It's within walking distance from our temporary home and serves a nice variety of beers and food. But most importantly, they have trivia!

Pot reflections

This restaurant window made for some interesting reflections. It's a Korean resto which I'd love to try sometime! I love those long tables and the copper pots are rather intriguing.
