Little birdie!

A fellow Toronto blogger, RedPat, introduced me to these cute, yellow birds and ever since I've been on the lookout for them! I found this one off McCaul Street, just south of the AGO. 

Although I'm still missing Toronto, things are looking up for me in Berlin. Although our hunt for a home is still ongoing, my husband and I joined a golf club this weekend (I guess you can see where our priorities lie! ) . Surfer

Here's another shot I took during my last days in Toronto. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly where it was taken, but somewhere downtowny. I don't really know what it all means, but I find it rather whimsical and the bright colors are nice on the side of that dingy building.

Blown to the wind

I found this mural somewhere on Church street. I'm not sure what it's all about, but I do love the image of the woman and the boy blowing their wishes to the wind! A link to the artist's website is here. This will be my last mural posting for awhile, but not forever! Berlin also has plenty of wall art to share. Many faiths

I found this colorful beauty at the intersection of Church and Shuter. I looked for some more information online and found that it is part of the Paint Your Faith project that encourages young people to express their spiritual beliefs through an artistic medium. Allegro

I found this mural on the side of the building housing the Allegro Italian restaurant in Caledon, Ontario. I didn't go inside, but I would suspect the interior must be nice as well. Making of the CN Tower

I recently took my second (and probably last) trip up the CN Tower.  I didn't notice this mural depicting the builders of the Tower the first time I went up, so I did get something out of the second trip! The guys who built the tower must have been very brave. It makes me nervous just looking down through that glass floor.

A legend

I'm not really sure what makes this place legendary. Perhaps some of the athletes who practice here have taken part in the Olympics? In any case, I liked the colors and the patio does look like a nice place to enjoy the views of Lake Ontario. For more murals, take a look at Monday Mural.

It is what it says it is...

You'll find beer stores all around town, but I've never seen one with the name actually painted on the side of the building like this. In case you're wondering, they do sell beer there. The system is actually sort of fun. You go in and there is a big board on the wall (sort of like at McDonald's) showing all the beers available. You place your order and someone in the back prepares it and out it comes on the conveyor belt!

Besides selling beer, these stores also take back your old beer cans and wine and liquor bottles for a refund. For more murals, take a look at Monday Mural.

Portuguese mural

As promised, here's a closer look at the Portuguese Parkette that I showed briefly last week. There was a wonderful blue and white tile mural showing some of the historical moments of the Portuguese arrival in Canada. I upped the contrast on the top shot so the picture is more clear.

And here's a look at the mural in perspective. It's just near a bust of Portugues poet, Louis de Camoes. I'm not sure what he has to do with Portuguese-Canadians, but I guess all the greats of literature deserve a bust here and there! For more murals, take a look at Monday Mural.

Groovy lady

I'm going on a floral kick this week. What better way to start it off than with a mural of a cool chic who likes to wear flowers in her hair? Hope you agree and that you'll be back to see more flowers. For more murals, take a look at Monday Murals.

July theme day: Theatrical facade

And we're back to the Elgin Wintergarden Theater! When the theatre was being renovated, they discovered lots of remnants from the vaudeville days, like this old flat. This garden backdrop would have been used for light, musical numbers. I can just imagine the ladies twirling a parasol and singing a light ditty in this scene. Theatrical mural

It's on to the second stop of Doors Open Toronto - the Elgin theater! This place was just fantastically beautiful and the volunteer who gave a talk about the theater's history was so interesting and really knew his stuff. What you're looking at is the fire curtain of one of the two theaters housed in the building. I'll show and tell you more about it this week. Until then, you can find more murals at Monday Murals.

Collective mural

I found this colorful cyclist on a wall just off Queen West street. The bright colors were what attracted me initially. But when I went to the Collective Spaces website, I liked it even better. Apparently the works on this wall will be changed periodically to showcase different talents. I definitely think it's cool to keep things fresh! If you enjoy murals, head to Monday Murals.

Pop of red

I spotted a splash of red on Queen Street West. It's always a fun place to wander around on a nice sunny day! I'm just glad we're finally starting to get some heat. For more red, visit Ruby Tuesday.

Saintly mural

There were some lovely murals on the side of the Saint Catherine's Museum. I especially liked this look at Saint Paul Street from the days when people traveled in horse-drawn buggies. A real blast from the past! For more murals, visit Monday Murals.

Ground control to Major Tom

I found this mural of musical greats downtown near the Bathurst subway station. I like this rendition of David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust days, it's just unfortunate he has that pipe running through his head! For more murals, take a look at Monday Mural.

Mural of sorts

A wonderful city painting found in a design shop in The Junction. I'm sorry for the sporadic posting and commenting of late, but my new job is keeping me super-busy! Hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed the festivities of the Super Bowl. For more murals, take a look at Mural Monday.

Old time travel

I found this mural over the weekend in the part of town known as the Junction. It seems it was formerly the hub for train travel in the city, there's lots of locomotive themed signage and such. Unfortunately, this bench made it difficult to get a full view of this mural, but you get the idea. Hope your week is off to a good start, it's going to be a busy one for me.
