January theme day: Photo of the Year

Electrical development

I took one last trip to Niagara Falls recently. This time I actually caught a few things I'd never seen before, including this beautiful old building. Hope you enjoy - my time in Toronto is really coming quickly to a close.

Nothing to see here

Another look at Niagara Falls in the cold. The icicles on this viewer gave me a laugh. Hope it also brings a smile to your face this Monday morning!

Strange scene

A funny juxtaposition at Niagara Falls. I don't know why, but dinosaurs and snow just don't go together for me, but it makes for a nice shot, especially in black and white.

Two years in Toronto

 

It's been two years now since I opened up my Toronto blog. During that time, I've come to discover a city with lots to offer, but also with the same kinds of problems that plague any big city. It's been a fun ride so far and I've still got one year to go!

Frozen fence

It's back to Niagara Falls, although with the weather we have in store for overnight it might look like this here in Toronto by tomorrow! Snomageddon is upon alot of places up here in the upper eastern corner of the continent - if you're part of it, hope you stay safe and warm.

February theme day: Umbrellas

This is the piece de resistance of my recent visit to Niagara Falls. The wintery mists made conditions perfect for a beautiful rainbow which covered us all like a giant colorful umbrella!

Cold mists

In the spring and summer, the mists from Niagara Falls keep the nearby vegetation humid and happy. In the winter, those mists turn to ice making it a beautiful scene - especially for photographers! 

I'm not so sure this guy is enjoying the cold much though! Mr Tesla's looking a bit frosty.

Frozen sign

I finally made it to Niagara Falls in the winter and it's a totally different experience! Here's a look at one of those informative signs covered with layers of the frozen mist from the falls - guess guests won't be learning much today. Getting misty

I was hoping to get out and get some new shots over the weekend, but so far it hasn't happened. We still have quite a bit of snow on the ground and I'd like to catch it before it's gone. I suppose there's still time today! Until then, enjoy this one from the archives. I've got a feeling the falls are looking a bit different these days.

Second choice

I almost chose this shot for yesterday's water's edge theme - I hope you'll still enjoy it! We haven't seen the sun in Toronto for almost a week now, let alone rainbows. The skywheel

I've never actually been on the Skywheel, but it looks like a fun way to see Niagara Falls. Maybe the next time we have visitors, we'll insist on taking this ride.

The Falls

I know you've been waiting for it, so here they are, the famous Niagara Falls. This is a look at the Horseshoe Falls actually, they're on the Canadian side. I'm a little disappointed with my shots from the falls. Unfortunately, it was a gray day so there's not much contrast between the water and the sky. I'm sure I'll get back here though, hopefully on a blue sky day!
