Streaky sky

Sorry for my lack of posts recently, but I've been having another round of technical difficulties. My camera died a few weeks ago and now my computer has died as well. Last week I had visitors and then I was out of town this past weekend, so I haven't had time to research and get a new one until now.

This is a look at sundown over Lake Ontario from Niagar-on-the-Lake. I always love stopping by there. This shot was actually taken with the point and shoot camera I bought in PEI. It does do nice sunsets!

Serene scene

Sunbathing swans

A look back at summer on the Toronto islands. Those swans and ducks seem to be enjoying the wonderful weather. I must admit, I wouldn't mind flying south for the winter! For more reflections, take a look at Weekend Reflections.

Island footbridge

Sorry for the unannounced absence, but I was called away to Chicago for a wedding this weekend. I thought I had set up some posts for while I was gone, but it seems they didn't work. I hope you'll enjoy this charming footbridge from the Toronto Islands. It's just a short ferry ride to the islands, but when you're there you feel like you're worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city! It's a nice place to beat the heat as well.

On the shore

It was evening when I was down at the lake taking these shots, so the lifeguards were no longer on duty. But there were still quite a few people out enjoying the cool breeze and the lake atmosphere. The only ones actually in the water were the kids as the water in Lake Ontario stays pretty cool year round. But that can definitely be a good thing on a hot day!

I also found out that the Toronto lifeguards are attached to the Police service, so I don't think they are volunteers. But I could be wrong. Enjoy your Thursday, the weekend is right around the corner.

Hiawatha

This little boat is one of the two shuttles that take visitors out to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club and back again. Unfortunately, I didn't get to board an actual yacht while I was there, but I did enjoy the afternoon. And I hope you've enjoyed my series!

Nice view

If you're not in the mood for sailing, you can also just take in the view at the Yacht Club. Looks like a sweet spot to me!

Memorial

I couldn't find any information on the internet about this memorial, but I think it has something to do with the war. If anyone knows something I don't, please share! You really get a great view of the Toronto skyline from the island.

Open sesame

I was recently invited to the Royal Yacht Club of Toronto. To get there, you have to take a ferry boat out to the little island the club occupies. On our way there, we passed this drawbridge. It looks pretty neat, but I doubt many tall ships pass through here. But if they do, the bridge can adapt!

Washed up

A log washed up on the beach of Lake Ontario. Water can be a powerful force, it washes things up and then washes them away. I wonder if this log has succumbed.

Beach scene

A beach scene in black and white. I don't typically like seagulls, but when they're on the beach where they're meant to be (and not stealing food from my plate at Sea World), I don't mind them as much. To see more monochrome shots from around the world, visit the Weekend in Black and White.

Monochrome scene

A look out on Lake Ontario from Niagara-on-the-Lake. You can see all the way to the US from here, that's Fort Niagara you see on the other side. They were firing the canons the day I visited, you could hear them and see the smoke from our vantage point.

The beaches

Woodbine Beach is a nice place to cool off on a hot Toronto day. Bring a picnic and your volleyball and you'll be set for a day of fun in the sun. Or if you don't have much time, just take a stroll down the boardwalk and do some people watching.

Harbourfront

You can't beat a blue sky over the water. This shot comes from the area known as Harbourfront in Toronto. The quays are lined with restaurants, shops and other activities (like boat trips). This is a look at those lucky few who can afford to keep their watercraft docked here. Must be fun.

From the 20th

We have some friends who just moved into a lovely downtown apartment on the waterfront. I certainly wouldn't mind waking up to this view every day!

PS: There's more from Sicily on my travel blog today. And the internet/cable guy is coming next Tuesday. I am going to call their hotline and see if someone cancels so they can install earlier. But at least the long wait is over.

The shore

Another view of the lake shore from Burlington. This time with a bonus wheatie-grassie-thingie! It's gotten warmer here in Toronto, but the skies are still gray and rainy. Let's hope we jump into summer soon.

View from the water

A look at some waterfront residential towers. Probably a nice place to live, but I still prefer a little more space.

My daily photo blog is going to be more occasional for awhile. Unfortunately, we didn't get the house we wanted in Pickering and I am going to have to stay at my job in Jackson until the end of March. Once I get into Toronto full-time, things will get up to speed.
