Just posing

These camels were also vying for attention and they got plenty of it! They also seemed pretty interested in posing for my camera. Lucky for me, they were good subjects.

The clock is ticking down on my remaining time here in Toronto. I'm glad Friday is here, but this weekend is going to be a busy one for me. There's no shortage of things to get done before an international move.

It's me!

This sheep was not shy about begging for some attention! Hope you're enjoying this trip around the farmyard.

Bacon?

These little piggies were also getting lots of attention at the petting zoo. Unfortunately, all I could get was a rump view! But they're cute from any angle.

Petting zoo!

Take a look at this cute little guy! He's a baby bison and I got his portrait at the Midnight Madness festival I recently attended in Caledon. I'm not sure he was so happy being cooped up in that small pen, but he did seem to like the attention he got, especially from the kids!

PS: I've still got loads of pictures from Montréal up on my travel blog.

Zipper

This is my favourite shot from The Ex. It's hard to explain exactly what the zipper is - but let's just say it's not for the faint of stomach! Hope you've got some nice plans for the weekend. It looks like mine is going to include quite a bit of rain.

Classic

The ferris wheel is a fair classic. I love the lights and color against the night sky!

Heart attack on a stick

These days a fair isn't complete without a fried food stand. I've never tried the deep fried butter, but I've heard it's delicious. I just can't fathom eating a stick of butter though.

If you're in the mood - you can get the grand slam deal for only $35. I think my arteries will thank me for not trying it! For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

Fun times!

I don't like getting on the rides at the fair, but they make for great photography subjects! For more red, take a look at Ruby Tuesday.

Colorful benches

The Canadian National Exhibition - known locally as The Ex - took place in Toronto a few weeks ago. I had a free ticket, so I took a quick stroll through the grounds where I found this lineup of colorful benches. The Ex is comparable to a state fair in the US - there are carnival rides, animal showings and of course, plenty of fried food! Check back in the coming days to see more of the fair fun!

Doors open Toronto

Doors opened to the public in over one hundred buildings around the city last weekend. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to visit all of them but I did make it to the old Fire Station 227 on Queen Street. It was quite interesting to look around. There was also a retired fire fighter on hand who knew much of the history of the building and was more than happy to impart his knowledge to us visitors!

I entered a few shots in this year's photo competition and this is one of them. If you'd like to see all the shots entered, they are here (mine were entered under the name Halcyon37). I'll be showing some other shots from the Doors Open event this week, so stop by if you're interested!

Pork prizes

I realized that I had neglected to show you the trophies from the RibFest. The citations you see here all belong to one stand, although it seemed each of them had a similar display of honors.

I'm not sure what makes one stand's pork products better than another's. But the wealth of pig-themed trophies does make for an interesting display!

Smokin'

Have you ever heard of a RibFest? I hadn't before I attended this one in Cobourg. I don't eat ribs, but I was fascinated watching these guys work. Each one had their own technique but basically it all boils down to a simple system: slather with sauce, grill, turn, slather, repeat.

There are several stands serving ribs, I think it would be hard to choose which one to sample, but I guess those who attend the RibFest regularly have their favorites. Or you could just choose the stand that has the most trophies. Yes, they give trophies at the RibFest. I am still amazed there is a whole festival dedicated to pork products. An interesting concept.

Cue the music

This mandolin player was part of the band playing at the Greek Festival back in June. I had sort of forgotten about these shots, hope you enjoy!
