Fishing huts

Ice fishing and ATVing are big winter passtimes up here in the cold north. You actually need a fishing license for ice fishing, even though most people throw their catches back. So instead of fishing myself, I watched others fish. It's quite the scientific pursuit and many of those huts are really decked out inside. These shots were taken last February in the Kawartha Lakes, but since we're getting more snow - it might as well be now! Hope your week is off to a less snowy start.

Talk about alone time.

Even in a well-outfitted fishing ice house, you have to be a real advocate to enjoy the sport.

I've only ever seen this pursuit on TV documentaries or mostly in movies. You have it on your doorstep Hal!

I knew many folks who ice-fished when I lived in Minnesota, but as much as enjoyed fishing in those days, I never thought ice-fishing looked like very much fun. Too cold!

I'm with you. I'll watch and take photos!

They are crazy people to be out on that cold ice! I'll just look at your pics.

I just saw "Grumpy Old Men" and thought it would be fun to visit one of these (even though I don't fish). I like the stop sign on the door. Very cool shot!

So cool! I've never walked on ice.

Pretty fascinating the way they can stay relatively warm in their huts and stay on the ice and fish all day!

I do the same. I prefer to take photos of the fishers.

I hate the new word verification. Since I have trouble reading those "words", I am assuming others do too.
