Gladstone cowboy

The Gladstone Hotel is a quirky little boutique hotel that has become a landmark of West Queen West, the arsty section of town. Each of the guest rooms has been designed and decorated by a noted artist or interior decorator. I was lucky enough to tour a few of the rooms when I went on an art walk a few weeks ago. I'll give you a peek inside tomorrow.

Until then, enjoy the cowboy elevator. It's an old-fashioned lift that riders must manually elevate by cranking the wheel. I didn't try it out, but I'd love to go back and see what it's like! If you'd like to see more signs, visit Signs, Signs.

amusant, je savais pas que ce type d’ascenseur existait encore. Un travail tres specifique ;)

I'm not a fan of elevators but this one looks cool!

Anything with a 'cowboy elevator' sounds intriguing to me!

Marvelous, Halcyon. I love quirky hotels. They are so much more enjoyable than the kind where you wake up and don't see anything to remind you what city you are in. Two weeks ago we stayed in the Abbey Manor Guesthouse in Cape Town. We were in a second floor room with two balconies overlooking Table Mountain on one side and the city on the other. Perfect!

Very neat. We've never seen an elevator like this.

Sounds like the kind of hotel we love to stay at!

that would be a fun elevator to ride. nowadays they are rather dull - so smooth and quiet you are not even aware you are in a 'lift'!

I'd need to lose a few pounds if I need to crank myself ;)

I love the lettering

Sounds like a neat hotel AND elevator; I just hope I'd be in it with someone who was strong enough to "crank" the wheel!

I'm always curious about boutique hotels, I've never been in one or seen one.

I have never heard of a manual crank in an elevator. not sure I would feel safe - or strong enough!

Easy to spot that not only YOU, but also the owner of the place has eyes for beautiful details.

If I ever hear the old song "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy" again, my head will change it to "Gladstone Cowboy" because that's immediately what I started to hum. Yeah, you've GOT to try that elevator and tell us all about it.

I hate the new word verification. Since I have trouble reading those "words", I am assuming others do too.
