Play me!

The Distillery District is always a good place to show to out-of-town guests. We were lucky enough to get an impromptu concert by this young man. Toronto has a piano project out this summer in honor of the upcoming Pan Am games that will be hosted in Canada. There are 41 pianos around town (one for each of the nations that will be participating) that people can just sit down and play. Although each piano has a unique decoration, they all have a sign saying "Play Me, I'm Yours". I think it's a great idea to bring people together! If you'd like to see more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

PS: I feel that I have to explain yesterday's post in a bit more detail. I don't usually take house guests to cemeteries! We actually wanted to visit Dundern Castle which is right across the street from the cemetery. Unfortunately, I didn't check the opening hours before we left and we arrived to find the castle closed on Mondays. Since we had driven an hour to Hamilton, we decided to at least take a look at the cemetery. This is actually the second time I've been to Dundern Castle without being able to visit. Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

I'll bet your guest exclaimed: "You'll be the death of me!" :-)

Love this idea. And I'd even sit down and play a little. That's how much piano I can play - a little. What a great place. Toronto is an exciting city!

Love this! Last year St. Paul had Pianos on Parade, the same concept with 50 pianos all over the city during the summer, and I photographed about 10 and posted them on my blog. Isn't it fun to see them? If this tiny url works for me, here is the url for one of them: http://tiny.cc/hk6zhw

PS. I had to laugh when I read Andy's comment on your blog yesterday!

They've done this in other cities and it was a great success! I've seen this in Seattle and quite enjoyed the musical talents of strangers!

I've heard about your piano project - that is one of the coolest ideas ever. Love that you caught someone playing as well.

That's fun. It reminds of the ones in Denver.

I really like this idea. Through our blogs we see all kinds of efforts to make our communities around the world more liveable through spontaneous group art forms . . . your pianos, my yoga, Jilly's tango, St. Louis Bob's weird parades, the flash mob today at Valladolid.

You're making me feel guilty about kidding you for your guest trip to the cemetery.

And . . . the group yoga in West Hartford is the second year. A yoga clothing and supplies store is at the corner of the location and participation has grown, so I expect it will be tried again next yearso long as the participation is strong. Little cost to the town and lots of potential shoppers when the yoga ends.

Great idea for those that can play, which I can't! I'd just have to listen. :)

What a grand idea. I would certainly have sat down and started playing. I wonder where they all go if it rains. I think it is exciting you all are hosting the Pan Am Games. This has to be my favorite post this week. genie

I think this is a super idea too. I hope they are protecting them from inclement weather, though. I heard at least one was badly out of tune.

I hate the new word verification. Since I have trouble reading those "words", I am assuming others do too.
