Canada didn't actually have its own flag until 1965. Before that date, they used what is called the Red Ensign. I found an example of one at York Cemetary on a military grave.
PS: My internet connection is coming today! And there are more photos from my Mediterranean cruise up on my travel blog.

I have learnt something new, about Canada!
And I like the flowers.
Very pretty!:)
I had no idea of this, interesting story. Congratulations for your long awaited connection!
Very nice. I have a vague recollection of Canada having selected a flag during my life, so today I learn it is true. This is a pretty picture, but pansies so late? You MUST be up north.
Sounds like you're getting acclimated quite well! Hope you like your new life there. Sometime I'd be interested in hearing about the home you finally got...
beautiful flowers to celebrating your internet connection.
Congrats on your Internet connection! Now, I thought the maple leaf was Canada's flag. Learned that in sixth grade world history.
Such wonderful color in this shot!
Jolie photo (mes pensées sont mortes maintenant, j'ai mis des géraniums à la place).
Alors ce canapé ? :-)

I hate the new word verification. Since I have trouble reading those "words", I am assuming others do too.
