Reflective roof

This is a look into the Brookfield Place building from the outside. This building is not far from Union Station and it has this really spectacular glass atrium. I'm sure you'll see more views of this place on my blog in the future.

If you like reflections, take a peek at the Weekend Reflections blog!

Smokin'

Have you ever heard of a RibFest? I hadn't before I attended this one in Cobourg. I don't eat ribs, but I was fascinated watching these guys work. Each one had their own technique but basically it all boils down to a simple system: slather with sauce, grill, turn, slather, repeat.

There are several stands serving ribs, I think it would be hard to choose which one to sample, but I guess those who attend the RibFest regularly have their favorites. Or you could just choose the stand that has the most trophies. Yes, they give trophies at the RibFest. I am still amazed there is a whole festival dedicated to pork products. An interesting concept.

Dreamy place

I found this cute cafe in Port Hope. I love the way it looks with those lovely tables and flowers. I also think the name is perfect! Unfortunately, I didn't see the lady inside giving me the evil eye until later. I guess she didn't like being part of my photo...

Bug love

I found this pair in the parking lot of Yorkdale Mall, If only my little blue Bug had been there...

To see more red shots, take a look at Ruby Tuesday.

Random boat

I found this row boat recently on a golf course. Not what you typically expect to find, perhaps they use it to fish balls out of the water feature? A conundrum for the ages...

And there's more from Rochester this week on my travel blog. Stop by and take a look!

Floral facade

Another one of the beautiful flower-covered restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Every building you see seems to be prettier than the others, but I really think this was the piece de resistance. Fall has definitely descended on Toronto, so it's nice to take a look back to this summer.

For more flowers from around the world, visit Today's Flowers.

Monochrome scene

A look out on Lake Ontario from Niagara-on-the-Lake. You can see all the way to the US from here, that's Fort Niagara you see on the other side. They were firing the canons the day I visited, you could hear them and see the smoke from our vantage point.

To see more monochrome shots from around the world, visit the Weekend in Black and White.

Building and sky

Another look at one of the lovely old buildings in Niagara-on-the-Lake. And it's backed by a pastel blue sky, a perfect day for strolling and shooting.

To see more skies from around the world, visit Skywatch. And I still have some shots from Rochester on my travel blog.

Shaw

I don't know what connection George Bernard Shaw has with Niagara-on-the-Lake, but there was a statue of him gracing the main street. I think he's looking pretty good!

Update courtesy of VP: The Shaw Festival, an annual theater festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada began as an eight week run of Don Juan in Hell (as the long third act dream sequence of Man And Superman is called when staged alone) and Candida in 1962, and has grown into an annual festival with over 800 performances a year, dedicated to producing the works of Shaw and his contemporaries.

Lush bench

If you don't like the hustle and bustle in Niagara Falls the city, you can head just down the road to Niagara-on-the-Lake. It's filled with cute shops, quaint cafes and the streets are lined with flowers. When you've had your fill, visit some of the nearby wineries.

PS: Don't forget to take a look at Rochester on my travel blog.

The Falls

I know you've been waiting for it, so here they are, the famous Niagara Falls. This is a look at the Horseshoe Falls actually, they're on the Canadian side. I'm a little disappointed with my shots from the falls. Unfortunately, it was a gray day so there's not much contrast between the water and the sky. I'm sure I'll get back here though, hopefully on a blue sky day!

PS: I showed High Falls in Rochester yesterday. And I've got even more of the city to show you on my travel blog.

Trapped

I love Niagara Falls, but the city that has built up around it is a tourist trap in every sense of the term. I thought this scene made for a nice photo, although I wonder how many people come to the falls to bowl.

PS: Although I still have many beautiful shots from Crete to show, I thought I'd take a break and show a bit of Rochester, New York. Stop by and take a look!

Forlorn flower

It's a little hard to see, but I caught a hummingbird moth drinking from this faded coneflower. It's hard to catch these guys in motion, but it was pretty amazing to see.

To see more flowers from around the world, visit Today's Flowers.

Cue the music

This mandolin player was part of the band playing at the Greek Festival back in June. I had sort of forgotten about these shots, hope you enjoy!

Reflective doorway

This was a really cool design shop. I could have bought up the whole store, luckily I was able to show some restraint. I found it in the Distillery District and hope to get back for another round of browsing sometime soon. To see more reflections from around the world, visit Weekend Reflections.

Red delicious

A Rickard's Red is good any time of the day (well, after noon at least), but it's especially refreshing on a warm Indian summer day. Reminds me, the weekend is coming!

Royal fruit

I just liked the name of this fruit stand. I found it on Danforth, that's the Greek section of Toronto. To see more signs from around the world, visit Signs, Signs.

Red bench

This beauty comes to you from the Royal Botanical Gardens. I'll be traveling home to Oklahoma City this week, but hopefully I'll be able to get online a bit while I'm there. To see more red from around the world, visit Ruby Tuesday.

Machine in monochrome

This is an old piece of machinery that was on display at the Distillery District downtown. According to one of my readers, it's a "chomper". I think that's a reasonable deduction as to what this machine does.  Happy Monday!

PS: This will be my last week in Crete on my travel blog. Stop by and take a look.

Old and new

It was a bit strange at the old Fort York. It's really right in the middle of downtown and you definitely feel the juxtaposition of old and new when you take a look around. That bridge you see is the Gardiner Expressway, one of the busier roads that take commuters into town. I wonder what old Simcoe would think about his fort now?

For a look at other bridges from around the world, take a look at Sunday Bridges.

Fort details

More from the old fort today. I loved this old door with the nuts and bolts. It seemed to lend itself well to black and white. Hope you are having a nice weekend, I will be enjoying what may be the last of the summery weather. To see more monochrome shots from around the world, visit the Weekend in Black and White.

Maquette reflections

I tried really hard to get a shot of this model ship without the reflections from the glass. At the end of the day, I sort of like the effect. And I really like the ship! Visit Weekend Reflections for more mirrored shots from around the world.

Band leader

In addition to the military reenactments, there was also a drum and fife band. I love the costumes. Quite an interesting visit!

PS: There's still time to see Crete on my travel blog!

Man and doorway

Another great doorway from the Distillery District. I really love the contrast of the red brick and the green door.

But I also think it looks good in black and white. Which one do you prefer?

Old red

I saw this old truck in the Distillery District downtown. I couldn't resist getting a shot. Red is my most favorite color. What's yours? To see more red shots, visit Ruby Tuesday.

PS: Hope those in North America had a wonderful long weekend. I spent it in Rochester, NY. Photos will be coming soon on my travel blog. For now you can still take a peek at Crete!

More from the fort

I showed you an interesting perspective from the old Fort York earlier this month. Here's a look at some reenactments that were part of the fun at the fort. What I really love is the way everyone is staring down the person on the left. I wonder if someone will be doing push ups later.

Begonias

Beautiful begonias from the Royal Botanical Gardens. I have so many lovely floral shots from the trip. I hope no one gets tired of looking at blooms. Personally, I like the reminder of summer.

Bench and reflections

A bench found in downtown Toronto, not far from the CN Tower. Hope all my North American readers enjoy their long weekend! To see more reflections from around the world, visit Weekend Reflections.

Another perspective

A perspective onto the lake front from the famed CN Tower. It's a long wait to get up there, but the views were worth it!

Confidential to my brother: Happy Birthday!

September theme day: Perspective

A view on the Toronto skyline from the Fort York. It's the site of the beginnings of what is now the city of Toronto. It's quite a contrast between the old fort and the modern skyline. Hope you have enjoyed this perspective on my city, to see more perspectives from around the world, click here.

I've also got a bonus perspective on my travel blog.
