Police headquarters

You'll find these benches and statue in downtown Toronto in front of the Metropolitan Police Headquarters building. I wonder how many people dare to sit on the benches outside a police station. I don't think I would!

PS: I've got more shots up on my travel blog from my holiday cruise.

Very interesting sculpture. I'm trying to figure out his gesture, but can't come up with anything. Do the blocks symbolize anything?

pas mal la sculpture en mouvement ;)

@Kate - I think he is doing the mortar on the bricks. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it all means? Police are the cornerstone of our society? Maybe I'll have to get back and take a second look.

Looks like a nice police HQ. I too am wondering about the significance of the cinder blocks...

It's very modern looking! I don't think I would spend too much time on those benches either.

Feeling a little guilty are we ....? :D

According to the sculpurs website - Eldon Garnet - it's actually a policewoman with a trowel in one hand and a radio in the other. Part of a trytich, though no other explanation given. See http://www.eldongarnet.com/public.asp , at the bottom of the page.

I would sit there. Looks pretty relaxing.

This sculpture by Eldon Garnet goes with the other 2 sculptures around police headquarters to tell a story. In this one the policewoman is using the blocks carried by the construction worker to build a base for the obelisk that the little boy is bringing on his wagon. The boy is on Bay at Grenville and the guy is on Grenville on the north side of the building.

Very interesting and quite unique and I like the statue and the benches. Why would you be afraid? Don't you know that the police men and women are your friends. Are you feeling guilty? Did you yell at your husband this morning for no good reason whatsoever? Do you have an unpaid parking ticket in your glove compartment? Did you move your golf ball in the rough the other day?

I'm watching!

This is so interesting, and I enjoyed seeing your readers building the explanation together.

It looks like a lovely plaza to hang around in but yeah, I wouldn't either. And I want to know where that guy thinks he's going.

I had to sit outside on benches at the main Dallas Police Station once. I was waiting to bail someone out. I wasn't their fault.....honest.

Hmmm, interesting staute. Maybe the benches are there so you can sit and contemplate it! ;-)

Friday night Bud ran his jeep off into a ditch MANY miles from nowhere.....he had to walk 10 miles out from the mountain. In the meantime we had a friend up on the my looking for him and a tow man looking for him to get him out. The end is friends of his family found him just by chance and pulled him out. The tow fellow did NOT find him and Bud ended up with a 300.30 bill for the hours he searched. THEN on the way home he got a speeding ticket - the first in his life. A new trap went up on Friday and got him going 35 miles an hour in a 25 zone. That is 125.00 and he has to go to Safe Driving School...what???? After a lifetime without drinking or speeding. I cannot believe it. Now to your shot. Bud is the guy who committed the crime and is sitting on the bench waiting for the cop to get him into court. What a weekend. He is taking it better than I am. I am still in shock and not nearly as matter of fact as he is. Love your capture....am going to show it to Bud when he gets home. The Bridge to Somewhere we built to get us over the creek to our house. genie

I hate the new word verification. Since I have trouble reading those "words", I am assuming others do too.
