Glenn's bench

Glenn Gould is one of Canada's most beloved treasures. He was a piano virtuoso and you can hardly step foot in downtown Toronto without finding something that bears his name. In fact, this bench is just outside the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) building which is home to the Glenn Gould Studio

As is often the case with musical geniuses, Glenn had many eccentricities. People now suggest that he may have suffered from some form of autism. Whatever it was, it certainly made him special and he won't soon be forgotten by his Canadian fans.

Many eccentricities might be a bit of understatement. The only pianist - and he was a great one - that can be heard in his recordings loudly humming along as he played. Fiting place for a statue of him, outside the CBC, they owe him a lot.

j'aime bien cette statue sur le banc, on a envie de s'assoir et de discuter avec Glenn Gloud (en plus l'un des plus grands pianistes, je suis fan de ce pianiste)

I love these benches. Art and functionality all in one. Speaking of Canadian musical treasures, I'm waiting for a Leonard Cohen bench.

You should have sat down on the bench and taken a self portrait. I bet it would have looked pretty cool.

He sounds like a very interesting musician; if I've heard him I'm not aware of it. This is a wonderful tribute and piece of art.

I love blogging because I learn so much; now I'll have to research this musician and his music. It's a fun sculpture.

I've never heard of him. This is really cool. You almost want to sit down next to him and have a conversation!

The sculptures are excellent! This name is very familiar to me. There was a time when I reviewed new records for a local paper, and I do believe I owned a couple of his recordings (would have been the early 70s.)

Gould became famous for his performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations, which are supposed to be extremely difficult to play on the piano. I have read that he numerous . . . quirks.

And of course I've never heard of him. I'll check him out sometime. Nice pix. I like how you cropped the second one.

I hate the new word verification. Since I have trouble reading those "words", I am assuming others do too.
